About the tool:
Duplicate Files Finder Tool is an MS Excel based tool to identify duplicate files exist in your system or shared folder. The tool takes a base folder path as input and list down all duplicate files in the folder and sub-folders. It has capability to find duplicate files by comparing the names and their size.
Tool Features:
- Compare file names for duplicate after removing version numbers
- Allows file size variations setting to compare files with different file sizes
- Moves identified duplicate files to another folder

System Requirements:
- You need to have installed version of MS Excel 2010 or above
How to use this tool:
- Open the tool and you will see below screen
- If the macros are disabled, click on Enable Content button
- Select the base folder path from which you want to identify duplicate files
- There are two settings through which you can control identifying duplicate files logicFile Size Variation Allowed: Through this setting you can control the variations allowed in file size while comparison. For example, a file named Test.doc (118 KB) and another one named Test.doc (23 KB) can be found as duplicate if the file size variation allowed is 100 KB
To change this setting, click on the dropdown and update the setting as required
Remove Characters from File Name before Matching: Through this setting you can remove version details from the file name before comparing it’s name. For example, a file named test v1.0 and test v2.0 may be duplicate
To change this setting, click on View Setting button
Here you can mention the characters to be removed from file name before comparison
- Once you are done with the initial settings, click on Start Finding Duplicates button
- Depending on number of files available for analysis, tool may take some time for analysis and identifying duplicate files. Once done, it will filter them and show you the result
- If you want to move the duplicate files in another folder then select the folder where you want to move these files
- Now select Yes for the files which you want to move
- Once done, click on Move Duplicate Files
- Click on Yes to confirm the action
- Tool will now start moving the files to selected folder and show you a confirmation message once action is complete
- You can see the action taken by the tool in Status column as well
